3 Days at sea.

05/06/2008 1030EDT Position: 23 27'N 069 23'W 791nm to Savannah.

1200EDT Postition: 23 31'N 069 31'W S5.7kn 783nm to Savannah.

Question for the kids: Not too long ago, we crossed a significant lattitude. What lattitude did we cross, what's it called, and what's so special about it?

1400EDT Took advantage of the calmer sea conditions to top off the fuel tank. Added 6 gallons.

We jibed...

The new forecast looked much different than the one we pulled mid-afternoon yesterday so we jibed about 5 minutes after that last post...

0730EDT Position: 23 24'N 069 07' C300M S5.5kn

A bird has landed on the boat. Rusty's looking for crackers to see if he's hungry..

Today's question for the kids... We are 803 nautical miles from Savannah. Is that the same distance as traveling 803 miles in a car? If not, how is it different?

It's "Lake Harriet Shifty" out here!

Overnight we had very shifty winds as we're on the edge of two weather systems. The wind was (and still is)shifting as much as 40 degrees every few minutes. At present, we can't sail a compass course because of the shifts. We're still on starbord tack weaving back and forth sailing as deep into the apparent wind as conditions allow. We're currently 41nm notheast of the direct route. That's OK if yesterdays forecast is correct, We're considering tacking, but we're a bit concerned that we'll end up sailing into the middle of the high pressue and come to a near stop. We'll make that decision based on the new forecast that comes down as this post gets uploaded to the blog.

We had two flying fish land on the boat last night. That's all for now...
