It's been a while since we've had time to give an update on our progress.
Actually, lack of progress would be a better description of the past 24
hours. We got as close as 141 miles from our destination then Mother
nature had other ideas. Some strong thunderstorms passed through the
Savannah area and just to our north. While we were lucky to miss the
rain, we weren't so fortunate with the wind and high seas. Last night we
had 12-15 foot seas and winds ranging between 25-35 knots. It wasn't so
much stressful as it was a frustrating night at the helm… our forward
progress was stopped.. our goal was simply hold our position. By morning
we had slid backwards nine miles.
With morning came a new weather forecast and it didn't look good. No
storms in the area, but it looks like it will be at least another 36-48
hours before conditions moderate. Rather than continue to stress the crew,
(very difficult to get any rest in those conditions,) we decided to turn
south west to find a smoother ride. We're currently headed in the general
direction of Cape Canaveral, FL. If conditions moderate, we'll turn back
toward Savannah. If not, we'll pull in somewhere, maybe Disney World, and
wait it out.
Ship and crew are safe and doing well.
